GCF Offers Prayers at the Passing of Pope Francis
The Global Christian Forum (GCF) joins our brothers and sisters around the world in heartfelt mourning for Pope Francis. His life and ministry were radiant with hope and joy, grounded in compassion, humility, and a profound commitment to human dignity. Pope Francis touched countless lives across faith traditions with his wisdom, kindness, and genuine love for all people. His dedication to caring for creation inspired meaningful global dialogue and transformative action for our shared environment.
At his heart, Pope Francis was a true ecumenist whose leadership embodied reconciliation, open dialogue, and deep mutual understanding. He passionately believed that our journeys in Christ unite us as one. Reflecting on this conviction, he addressed global ecumenical leaders with these words:
“Often we think that ecumenical work is only that of theologians… But in the meantime, ecumenism journeys on. It journeys with Jesus—not ‘my Jesus against your Jesus,’ but with our Jesus. The journey is simple: it consists of prayer, with the help of others. Praying together, the ecumenism of prayer, praying for each other and all for unity. Then, the ecumenism of work—working together for the many who suffer today from injustice, war, and hardship. All together, we must help. Love for our neighbor—this is ecumenism. This is already unity. Unity in journeying with Jesus.”
With deep gratitude and fond remembrance, we celebrate the faithful witness and impactful life of Pope Francis. We extend our prayers and solidarity to the Roman Catholic Church in this time of loss.
